Springfield IL (April 26, 2026) While Pridefest season is about to take off, there are a few activities you may want to consider in the meanwhile.
On April 27th, author Nico Lang is currently on a book tour for his latest published piece titled “American Teenager” which explains how trans-youth are surviving hate and finding joy in the current environment. Lang will be at First Presbyterian Church at 7:00 p.m. to read excerpts from his book and answer any questions from attendees.
Black Lives Matter is holding a fundraiser on April 30th for their annual scholarship program. Called “Boone’s Scholarship Fundraiser,” For anyone looking for a place to eat that day or evening, place an order either in the restaurant or to go, and 10% will be donated to Black Lives Matter. Boone’s is located at 301 W Edwards St for those interested in dining in. For those interested in take-out/online orders, their website is www.myboones.com.
Brothers & Sisters Together is a dinner group that meets nearly every Friday evening. They go to various local independent restaurants in the area for socializing and, of course, eating. The restaurants range from simple diners/cafes to upscale eateries. The meetings usually begin at either 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. If interested in occasionally joining them or making it a regular Friday night affair, you can email bst217@gmail.com to be included in their email blasts.
CORAL’s monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Sunday of every month at AgeLinc located at 2731 S MacArthur Blvd in Springfield or they can be attended via Zoom. The Zoom address can be found on the first page of their website, www.springfieldcoral.org. The meetings usually last about an hour and cover everything from the latest workings of each committee, current projects on the docket, and upcoming events and activities being planned. We would love to see new faces and participation.
The Phoenix Center has begun a new activity/group called “Come Out & Write.” They meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Out on Second located at 120 E Scarritt. The purpose of this group is to provide aspiring writers and journal writers an opportunity to write their stories with like-minded people around.
