CORAL Raises Funds for APL

Springfield IL (July 29, 2026) On the night of June 10, 2026, a severe storm with strong winds and an EF-1 tornado hit Springfield, Illinois, particularly affecting the APL facility on the north end of Springfield. The tornado ripped the roof off the clinic and shelter buildings, flooded the upstairs areas, and damaged a shed, leaving the shelter unusable for the foreseeable future. At the time of the tornado, the APL housed 155 dogs and cats. Thanks to rapid response from staff, volunteers, and community members, all animals were safely evacuated. Many were temporarily placed at Sangamon County Animal Control, local kennels, vet clinics, and foster homes. The APL prioritized finding foster homes, especially for cats, while continuing to provide care and medical attention.
Following the tornado, the APL has been actively fundraising to support operations, including food, medical care, and vaccinations for the animals. Community support has been significant, with volunteers, local businesses, and partner organizations assisting in temporary sheltering, mobile clinics, and supply donations.
CORAL, who had spent many weekends volunteering at APL performing various duties from creating food treats for both dogs and cats to maintaining their serenity garden, strongly believed they could do more to support their recovery. So, a fundraiser was had with the assistance of Fluid on July 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Fluid created a special drink for the evening with proceeds added to those funds collected for the night. All in all, CORAL was able to collect nearly $1,000.00 to add to their $1,000.00 that had already been decided to donate.
Not only was it a wonderful evening of giving but several new faces joined CORAL in the cause.
