What's Happening?

Springfield, IL – As we head into another comfortable week of early Fall, now is the time to really get out and about to enjoy it.  And, CORAL has some ideas as to how you can do that.

Before you head out that door though, why don’t you have a little treat?  Like they used to say about jello, there’s always room for popcorn and CORAL wants to prove it.  Through September 15th, CORAL and Del’s Popcorn Shop has teamed up to offer a special deal where all sales through the website,  https://www.delspopcornshop.com/products/coalition-of-rainbow-alliance-popcorn-fundraiser, will yield a donation of 50% for the benefit of CORAL.  Not only can you purchase five different varieties of popcorn but also peanut brittle and popcorn balls.  While Del’s recently closed their Springfield store, they are still servicing the area through their Mt Zion location and all sales can also be shipped.  So, enjoy some popcorn and help CORAL at the same time.

What better way to appreciate this weather than to have a three-day weekend as well.  Labor Day brings another event called Workers over Billionaires Rally.  This will be held at the State Capitol beginning at noon through 1:30 p.m. hosted by Capital City Illinois Indivisible and 50501 Springfield.

Recently, Fluid began offering Karaoke Tuesdays from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. for those either with the voice to show off or the self esteem to not care if they don’t.  Also, on September 13th, a drag show, Saturday hangout Night will be held beginning at 10:00 p.m. with a $5.00 entry fee.  Not to be outdone, Clique has two events scheduled as well.  On September 6th, they will be having their “Clique’s Got Talent” for those who wish to display their talents beginning at 8:30 p.m with a $100.00 entry fee.  And, on the next night their Sunday Funday drag show will take the stage at midnight with a $5.00 entry fee.

Moving on to the end of the week, on September 5th, CORAL would love to see a strong contingent of our members joining us with the SIU School of Medicine’s AWIMS 3rd Annual Colors of Health Fashion Show Community Engagement Awards and Fashion Event at the Hoogland Center for the Arts beginning at 5:00 p.m. featuring Mahogany Knight and Friends.  CORAL is honored to be recognized at this event for our unwavering commitment to uplifting and advocating for the LGBTQ+ community of Central Illinois and proceeds from the event are being donated to CORAL to further that mission.  Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased at https://www.highmarksce.com/siumed/Planners/viewActivity?plannerID=3031

On a final note, let’s remember to finalize August by acknowledging Black Business month.  If you haven’t before now, patronize a black owned business and show your support.  And, for that matter, keep doing it throughout the year.
