What's Happening?

Another busy couple of weeks for those looking for activities.  Let’s go through them.

If you thought Pridefest celebrations were over for the season, you were wrong. 


Tomorrow, September 13th, make a short road trip to Decatur for Decatur Pride’s annual celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Fairview Park’s Pavillion.  The agenda is as such:

This year we are doing things a little different and we know everyone will have a great time.

Family Fun - This year we will have 10 carnival games for families to enjoy.

Sally the Clown will be there to paint faces and entertain us all.

Welcome Back our Drag Story time and our Pride Pet Show!!

Entertainment provided throughout the day, by Spin Masters DJ and Entertainment Services along with live performances! INCLUDING the VOICE OF DECATUR singing competition and we will be hosting a Talent Show for ALL AGES! If you want to dazzle everyone with a lip sync, poem, or other talent make sure to let us know when you arrive.

When the queens hit the stage, get ready to be dazzeled. Drag is all about exciting artistic performances that bring smiles to everyone's faces! The show is open to ALL AGES!

Bistro-to- Go and T. K. -N-Kay's Street Eatz food trucks will be on hand to satisfy the hunger pains.... oh and for that sweet tooth we will have Blessings & More Bakery LLC and KLC Creations LLC!!!

Raffle- Thanks to generous donors, we have some great items up for grabs! So, get your tickets for your chance to win!

We have some amazing vendors with awesome products. So many items that you won't want to miss this.  There will also be several informational/resource booths will be on site such as churches, CASA, BabyTALK, Fifth Street Renaissance, Decatur Public Library, Rainbow Youth Circle, along with FREE MOM HUGS Illinois to name only a FEW....... oh and make sure you stop at the mobile testing station for FREE HIV/STI TESTING.


On, Tuesday, September 16th, the first meeting of the “People Living With HIV” support group will be gathering at the AgeLinc/PrideLinc office located on MacArthur at 6:00 p.m.  This group is only for people living with HIV and will allow those individuals to have an outlet to express themselves openly and frankly with others dealing with the same way of life. 


Also beginning on September 16th is Bisexual Awareness Week.  Take a moment to acknowledge your bisexual friends and family.  We see you and love you.


On, Thursday, September 18th, NPR will be celebrating their 50th anniversary with an exhibit at the Lincoln Library beginning at 6:00 p.m. with the ribbon cutting at 6:16 p.m.  The exhibit will chronical the 50 years of the station’s history.  The opening will be followed by a cocktail party from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church across the street. 


And, on Saturday, September 20th, CORAL will be hosting another volunteer event at the Animal Protective League from 9:00 a.m. to Noon to create dinner toys for the cats and dogs.  Everyone is invited to join.


And, for those members looking for collegiate funding assistance, Acorn Equality has opened their application process for grants to help with education needs.  Go to their website, https://www.acornequalityfund.org/scholarships.html to find their application.
